ACT Now ABA was founded after some 15 years of effort honing the design of Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACTr) to be used by applied behavior analysis (ABA) practitioners.
Our interest from the beginning was to develop ACTr as an outgrowth of ABA and consistent with the seven dimensions of ABA that Baer, Wolf, and Risley articulated in 1968 and the Behavior Analyst Certification Board Task List to which behavior analysts are beholden. We have striven to develop ACTr functional assessment, functional analysis, therapeutic alliance, and intervention approaches that are deeply embedded in the effective, efficient practices of ABA.
But ACT Now ABA is more. Our aim is to grow ACTr with those whose voices have not been heard in the past. It’s well known that when people with power use their platforms to elevate others, everyone benefits. We influence each other after listening with openness and curiosity. By creating a brave space with our colleagues, many of whom are not professors in the academy, to share their expertise, we are helping the world grow in ways that matter to us. ACT Now ABA presenters are skilled in ACTr and include members of diverse groups with messages that could help you connect with a bigger world than you’d previously known. You could be energized by these connections… we hope forever.
